Launch Zone Partners with TRMC

Student presents to judges in Business Plan Competition (BPC) in the Launch Zone at the SLC.The Ted Rogers Management Conference (TRMC) is a student-run business conference that aims to explore the business style and work ethic that the late Ted Rogers possessed and maintained. This year, TRMC ran from March 10-12, 2016.

The TRMC team partnered with the Launch Zone by virtue of their like-minded focus on developing entrepreneurial skills in communication, collaboration, design, business planning and leadership.

The collaboration included hosting the second annual Business Plan Competition (BPC) at the Launch Zone on March 11, with ten teams presenting to a panel of judges from Startup Toronto, the Launch Zone and the DMZ. The preliminary BPC round was open to students in the space, providing these Launch Zone visitors with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new experience while diversifying the audience of the BPC presentations.

Michael Zelma, the TRMC 2016 Chair, explained this year’s conference theme, “Launch” by discussing how the team wanted “to develop the personal brand and skill set of each delegate. Whether through workshops, networking or case competitions, we at TRMC want to provide delegates with the tools and capabilities to be able to Launch themselves into their career post-grad”.

This collaboration is another example of how students are leveraging opportunities to maximize the uses of space available at the SLC. TRMC promoted the Launch Zone’s mission in support of connecting like-minded peers in expanding their skill sets through programming and events, while simultaneously utilizing the resources available in the space. With the objective of enriching the student learning experience, the Launch Zone was the ideal space for the BPC event as it was designed to promote and foster an entrepreneurial mindset and activities through showcasing Ryerson’s innovation.
