Sesqui-what?

Written by student blogger Danielle Howson

Here at the Student Learning Centre (SLC), we’ve kicked off the sesquicentennial celebrations with the installation of a Canadian flag overlooking the bridge connecting to the Library. Just in time to honour National Flag of Canada Day on February 15th!

On this day in 1965, the red and white flag was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill. February 15th now marks a day to celebrate the flag and what it has come to stand for: unity, tolerance and peace.

The Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) Team, in collaboration with Aboriginal Student Services, takes this opportunity to spread a message of unity by highlighting the cultural wealth strengthening our nation from coast to coast.

“Let the flag remind us to strive for unity in our diversity. May we recognize the history of our land and the multi-layered identities that call it home.”
