In the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving my mind had often been preoccupied with thoughts of all the things I am grateful for. One of the things I am most thankful for this year is the Student Learning Centre (SLC), as a student I am proud to study in the 21st Century Library that the SLC and Ryerson University Library and Archives (RULA) create together. As a Specialist and member of the Creative Team, I am thankful for the opportunities I have been presented. While thinking about this, I decided to sit down with other community members and learn why they are thankful for the SLC.
“I’m thankful that the SLC gives me a variety of places to study and hangout because it gives me a choice of what to do while I’m in between classes.” – Alex, Student Specialist, 4th year Philosophy major
“I’m thankful for the opportunity at the SLC to work closely with staff from Ryerson University Library and Archives (RULA) , Sandbox and Student Learning Support (SLS) on a variety of projects. I’ve learned so much from these different areas of expertise and the experience each person brings to the table.” – Tyler, Strategic Projects Assistant
“I’m thankful for the SLC giving me an opportunity to expand my skills and give back to the community. Being able to help and mentor students throughout their journey is one of the most rewarding things that I have ever done.” –Imran, SLC Assistant
“Our team is thankful for the SLC for providing students the opportunity to grow within an educational environment. The SLC enables students to seek information, experience innovative technologies, and participate in events and tutorials to better themselves and prepare them for their future.” – Urooj and Baylee, Ryerson University Library and Archive’s Digital Media Experience (DME) staff
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with the Ryerson University Library and Archives (RULA) and the Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) Team. In the past 2 years I’ve meet incredible people who have influenced me with their energy, love and their determined way of confronting the future.” – Olga, RULA Roamer
With every person I asked and each new reason for being grateful I began to see the SLC through different eyes. Here at Ryerson we are in the business of unique university experiences and the SLC makes sure of that with every person that enters the building. Whether you’re coming to get some work done or want to join the SEAL Team, we’re thankful that you’re a part of making the SLC world-class.
