At the SLC, we pride ourselves in our ability to provide exceptional experiences to students. We continuously strive to find new ways to engage the community and are thrilled to do so by helping to welcome Canada’s largest scholarly gathering. From May 27 to June 2, 2017 the 86th Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences will take place on campus, including here in the SLC.
Congress 2017 is the university’s signature sesquicentennial event and the SEAL Team is proud to celebrate all that it represents. It’s theme “The Next 150, On Indigenous Lands” offers an opportunity to reflect on Canada’s legacy through the lens of Ryerson’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion.
As part of the week-long event, the SLC will be home to a rich array of programming including:
- An award ceremony and reception, jointly held by the Canadian Society for the Study in Education and the Association of Canadian Deans of Education, on the evening of May 28 on the 8th floor.
- An Immigration and Settlement Studies showcase displaying the works of students and faculty, from May 28 onwards in the Amphitheatre.
- A week-long interactive refugee hut installation inviting participants in the Amphitheatre to take part in a virtual reality experience to better understand the refugee journey.
Opening our doors to Congress 2017 during this exciting time allows us to share and showcase our world-class space. The building will extend its hours of operation for the occasion and will continue to be open to students throughout. Hosting the event in this space will provide our guests with the opportunity to be immersed in our environment and experience first-hand the vibrancy of our campus. We invite you to help us welcome them during this historic moment for Ryerson; a time to highlight our university’s academic excellence and leadership.
